A gifted teacher, Patti Graetz has been teaching singing for more than 25 years. The past 20 years as a student of Lois Alba have given her a solid technique and a deep understanding of the voice and singing. Her passion for helping others to sing well has touched hundreds of lives.
Since 2005, she has been a voice tutor for the Opera Scholars Australia program at Australian Music Event's "Opera in the Alps" annual choral school. Working one-on-one and in master classes with these talented, young singers, Ms Graetz raises the barre of their performances through coachings in musical interpretation, singing in foreign languages and bel canto vocal technique.
During the first half of 2007, Ms Graetz was Artist-in-residence at Murray Conservatorium in Albury, NSW. Her main objective was to bring the teaching of the vocal staff to a new level. She had regular workshops with the vocal teachers in the Italian school of bel canto singing, observed the teachers in their studios and gave guidance and advice on how they might improve their own teaching.
In addition, she taught 6 workshops on vocal production open to students of the Conservatorium and members of the local community. Ms Graetz also conducted a student ensemble project which emphasised stage performance. This class taught students the basics of being on stage and culminated in two performances complete with movement, costumes and props.
Whether she is working with a large choir or one-on-one in private studio, her dynamic personality gives her the ability to communicate the “how-to’s” of singing in a fun, yet effective manner.
Understanding that the foundations of singing are the same, regardless of style of music, she works with singers of all genres from pop to classical, helping them to expand their vocal ability and succeed whether they are singing for their own enjoyment or pursuing a singing career.
One of the most important skills for effective teaching is the ability to hear with critical ears, identify what change needs to be made and then have the expertise to make those changes. Mrs Graetz was fortunate to have learned these skills from key teachers beginning at an early age.
An accomplished musician receiving praise for her own musicality and interpretation, Mrs Graetz helps her students to develop this same sensitivity. Her study of French, German and Italian – both language and diction - and her keen ear bring authenticity to whatever language the repertoire requires.
Mrs Graetz is available for private instruction, vocal workshops and master classes.
